Holidays

Wayhey, first day of the school holidays (if you don't count the weekend) and I'm actually feeling rather chilled for the first time in a very long time. Yes I have a long list of jobs to do and yes I do need to go into work at some point but just for once it's all on my own terms. I am choosing when I want to do stuff and it's a jolly nice feeling Smiling It also appears that when I don't have to do things I suddenly get quite productive.

Up Above

I had an adventurous day yesterday culminating in a trip up a vertical ladder onto the school's roof to take photos for the new website. This resulted in a rare opportunity for me to show you a photo from work. Usually I'm taking them of kids so publishing here is a big no no - which is a shame because some of them are pretty cool!

Medieval Air Raid Warden

Sunday morning we dragged ourselves up early and made our way into town on a search for a birthday present for Dan's mum (and some summer clothes for me, it's hot!). As we were wandering around we stumbled across an event at the Cathedral (in true Peterborough style it was probably publicised after the event because we'd certainly heard little about it). I'm not entirely sure what the theme was for the event. There was a hog roast and homemade fudge stand. Some people dressed up in medieval clothing, a viking boat, some birds of pray and...

Busy

I've been meaning to write on here for what seems like months but have been getting into the loop of "don't want to write about this until I've written about that but I haven't got time to write that". As a result I just haven't been writing at all!

Backing up and Restoring MySQL

I'm an incredibly dim person at times, if you don't spell it out to me the penny just doesn't click. Been trying to figure out for ages how to backup all of my databases and then transfer them to another machine. It turns out it's so simple nobody has bothered to document the whole process (that I could find). I figure if I write it down here I shall know for next time...

On machine with the databases, open cmd and type...

mysqldump -u[username] -p[password]--all-databases> alldatabases.sql

or for individual db's

Warmth

A frosty morning today saw a neighbours cat seek warmth from the vent in the roof of the bungalow behind us. As my new lens is still in transit I couldn't zoom in as close as I would have liked but you get the idea...

Warmth

... rather it be up there than in our front garden!

Moodling

In a grand shift of priorities at work we are now progressing, very quickly, with a Moodle Virtual Learning Environment.

When I first looked into platforms Moodle was quickly put to one side because it wasn't ticking many of the boxes being asked for. I'm now kicking myself because I didn't give it more of a go, I should have fought harder against requirements I knew were fanciful and unnecessary. Now I've waded through all the gumph and finally worked out what everybody's really after building the environment has suddenly become soooo much easier.
