life moves on

I wrote a lovely long entry for you the other day, full of wit and worldly insight (you believe that you\'ll believe anything!) and then I pressed the wrong button (or nudge the tracking pad, not sure which) and it was all gone. Couldn\'t be bothered to write it again hence my silence. But I\'m back now, I have forgotten all I had said and all I wanted to say so we shall have to begin with a clean slate.

humph

I\'m ill Sad I have a sucky sore throat, a sucky mouth infection and a sucky sucky cold. Humph. Andy has had the cold for a few weeks so I guess I\'ve done well to avoid it up to now but even so I\'m not overly pleased at catching it. Too much to do to be sick at the moment and certainly can\'t afford the time off work. What makes it worse is the fact that I feel even yuckier tonight than I did last night. Sucks.

niggly problems and a few solutions

Now that revision is underway this week seems to be the week for solving niggly problems. I had an issue with this laptop for a week or so now. Nothing major but it\'s bugged me. The icons in the taskbar haven\'t been showing properly. Today was the day to fix it. A quick google and it seems I\'m not alone in this problem. Windows has a bug? Never! Amongst the many explainations of how to fix the issue, log off, log back on, kill explorer.exe, restart explorer.exe, everytime you reboot your machine... stuff that.

nearly the weekend

I can\'t believe it\'s Thursday already, and the end of Thursday at that. Busy busy. TMA done, revision started. The emailing is still stuck but I\'ve done as much as I can do on it, just a waiting game now.

Been playing with php this week and sql with varying results. Think I\'m getting the hang of it now, slowly. Pretty cool stuff, liking it a lot, oh the possibilities...

Other than that not done a great deal although it feels like I have, absolutely shattered. Roll on Saturday.

the Sims are back

The Sims pc is back. In a good way this time however. It is now mine. For all of you that have been following the saga with the Sims pc this may not seem like a good thing, it didn\'t to me to start with, but a few brainwaves last night and it looks like we\'ve found my second linux pc Smiling I now have a plan.

Fridays

Why are Fridays always so misleading. You spend all week waiting for Friday to come, the weekend to begin etc etc and then it arrives. With it comes a pile of work which could quite easily fill the whole week and the one to come. Problems that can\'t be solved til Monday but needed solutions last week. Issues which will ride and you can do nothing about. The prospect of a busy weekend working through some of them and an even busier week of fixing ahead. I think we should ban Fridays. They suck.

and the moral of the story...

always use up to date software if you want it to work first time. After much mucking about with the rsync stuff, including leaving it over night to do stuff and then coming back to a load of errors it finally dawned that it wasn\'t a very up to date version. A quick download later and everything is working perfectly. Infact, as we speak, it\'s currently updating the vaio from the redhat box. Cool huh.

and they're like that now!

Needless to say the CATS were, uhm, interesting yesterday. It seems this years year sevens may be... fun?!? Lets be honest here, they\'re hard work and they haven\'t been here two weeks yet! When did kids start to grow up so fast? Back in my day (I feel I can say things like that now I\'m 23 Smiling) year sevens were timid little things, scared of being in this huge new place and certainly not about to answer back to someone currently testing them.

Deadlines loom

It\'s going to be a month of deadlines now Sad Project deadline tomorrow, newsletter this week, tma next week, new intake in a couple of weeks, exam just before half term. So little to do so much time to do it in, no scrap that, reverse it (see I do pay attention... even to dire movies Smiling)
